Immune boosting smoothie

It’s that time of year where sniffles and snot grace noses. Tissue sales are booming. And germs are everywhere. I know it’s cold and you want all things warm but who says a smoothie can’t be warm?! This smoothie has immune boosting ingredients and more importantly, it’s tasty, delicious and bright yellow!

mangoturmeric

The colour of this smoothie is partly due to the addition of turmeric – that yellow spice that we tend to associate with curries and stained fingers! Well, “turmeric contains curcumin, a compound that increases the level of immunity-boosting proteins in our bodies. These proteins help fight bacteria and viruses when they try to attack. Turmeric is also a natural painkiller, an added benefit if you’re actively fighting a flu virus.” (http://www.canadianliving.com/health/prevention/top_5_immunity_boosters.php)

The smoothie also has ginger contains anti-inflammatory properties, helps fight bacteria amongst other super-powers!  (see here: http://www.boost-immune-system-naturally.com/health-benefits-of-ginger.html) and finally, some lemon juice – we all know that citrus is bursting with vitamin C!

Mangoes – the main star of the show – just because they are yummy, delicious and give a natural thickness and sweetness to the smoothie

1 thumb sized knob of fresh ginger

1 teaspoon of turmeric (more if you’re feeling brave!)
